Some ball perfect mason jars are found with the number 13 on the bottom. Normally these appear from looking at the base but yours is backwards and was probably eventually changed to the correct mold configuration.

Modern ball mason jars are marked with many different numbers and those numbers vary by the company which is manufacturing them under the ball brand name.

What do the numbers on ball mason jars mean. The numbers 2 6 do not mean as much as other factors such as the exact color of the glass the shape of the mold and the type of lid. It changed throughout the years. The jar originally started out as clear but as it aged it would turn pink.

The ball logo was used between 1923 and 1933 as shown here on my logo link. The numbers found on lamb mason jars and all mason jars are mold numbers. They identified the particular mold or mold cavity on the jar making machine.

Well a 13 is selling for 20 and a 2 is selling for 5 so there must be some difference. The numbers can refer to the plant location the job or batch number and the date of manufacture. The ball logo is the best date indicator.

I guess it makes sense that each number either represents a specific glass blower or later a particular machine on which it was made. As mentioned earlier in this article most ball produced jars are typically found with a mold number ranged between 0 and 15 so naturally some percentage of them will carry the number 13. Then others have numbers 1 2 7 2 f etc. I found out that the blue ball mason jars were made anywhere between 1888 and 1961.

Numbers to the left of the company symbol in the case of this and some other manufacturers indicate a plant number.
